2012 was the thirtieth anniversary of Ruth First’s murder, and on the 7th of June the Institute of Commonwealth Studies held a one-day celebration of Ruth First’s extraordinary life and work. The event included Justice Albie Sachs, Gillian Slovo, Barbara Harlow, Alpheus Mangezi and Alan Wieder, among others, and was followed by a book launch by Don Pinnock.

This event was an initiative of the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, supported by the Review of African Political Economy (RoAPE). The book launch for Don's Ruth First: Voices of Liberation was hosted by the HSRC and the South African High Commission.
